Today the Government of Saskatchewan announced the delayed implementation of Tier 3 energy efficiency standards for new homes by one year to January 1, 2026. The SRHBA advocated for this extension in order to ensure that all home builders were adequately prepared to achieve the targets, while still being able to mitigate costs that would have directly impacted new home affordability. It’s important to note that new homes in Saskatchewan already meet high energy efficiency standards, offering homeowners reduced utility costs, greater comfort, and improved indoor air quality. Saskatchewan continues to be a leader in building homes that prioritize energy efficiency and sustainability, currently operating at a higher energy code tier than much of the country.
