Certified Professional Home Builder Program

The Saskatoon & Region Home Builders’ Association works to continually improve the professionalism of the residential construction industry and all its employees through ongoing training and education, and by providing certification of its members in the area of new home construction. The Certified Professional Home Builder Program is based on the National Education Benchmarks for Builders and Renovators as recommended by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association. AllBuilder Members of the Association must complete the complement of courses that meet the CHBA National Standards recommendations.

This certification also provides home building professionals with business and management skills that meet the industry’s demand and need for a higher standard. The final outcome will be a recognized Canadian Home Builders’ Association designation that gives Association members a highly competitive advantage in the market.

Certified Professional Home Builders must:

  • be a member in good standing of the Saskatoon & Region Home Builders’ Association for a period of not less than one year.
  • maintain a continuous complement of employees who have completed all of the required Certified Professional Home Builder Program courses.

  • Customer Service
  • Financial Planning & Management
  • Project Management & Supervision
  • Communications
  • Project Management and Supervision
  • Business Planning and Management
  • Human Resources Planning and Management
  • Marketing and Sales
  • Safety Training
    • Safety training is not provided through SRHBA

Eligible Contractor Program

By June 27, 2018, every contractor on Saskatoon Land’s Eligible Contractor list is required to complete mandatory training and safety education.  All new probationary applications must complete at least one of the mandatory training courses or the safety course before being allowed to purchase their first lot.

Many of Saskatoon Land’s lots are sold directly to homebuilders. To encourage safety, quality and lasting value for investors and families, Saskatoon Land requires all homebuilders to meet the specific criteria, including:

  • Be approved as a probationary or eligible contractor with Saskatoon Land.
  • Be a homebuilder involved in constructing complete homes for sale.
  • Be incorporated in the Province of Saskatchewan.
  • Be a member of one of the recognized Third Party Home Warranty programs in Saskatchewan.
  • Have completed the mandatory training and safety courses.

The mandatory training helps ensure homebuilders meet a standard in business management and new home construction knowledge, and are committed to constructing quality homes in Saskatoon Land developments. Together, these criteria encourage a high level of professionalism in the residential homebuilding industry, providing homebuyers with an excellent choice of homebuilders.
